WHAT for Kids! Summer Season Auditions:

WHAT for Kids!, the family theatre wing of the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, will be holding auditions for the 2013 Summer Season on Saturday, April 13, from 1-4 pm at the Julie Harris Stage, 2357 Route 6, Wellfleet, MA.

This year’s production brings back an old favorite from our 2007 season, Daisy Crockett, Frontiersperson! or Be Sure You’re Right, Then Go Ahead! The story begins in backwoods Tennessee, where the famous frontiersman and Congressman Davy Crockett has mysteriously disappeared. His younger sister, Daisy, has been writing stories about her brother and sending them off to the popular almanacks of the day to be published. One day the famous showman, P.T. Barnum, shows up at the Crockett household, hoping to entice Davy to appear in a new show he’s hoping to present at his theatre in New York. Daisy realizes that she might be able to supply not only a story for this new production but also, perhaps a lead actor – not Davy, but someone who just happens to look an awful lot like him. Act Two finds Daisy in New York, fighting fearsome river pirates on stage, while, off-stage, trying desperately to keep a very big secret from just about everyone.

We’re looking for male and female actors 14 – 30 who can sing and play multiple roles.

We’re also particularly interested in auditioning actors who can play a stringed instrument by ear. (Guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, etc). We also have need of a flute player and a female dancer.

Auditioners will be asked to tell a joke, read from the script and, if you do play an instrument, please plan on bringing it with you and playing a brief selection.

Rehearsals will begin the week of June 17 and will mostly be held in the evenings from 5 to 8pm. The show opens July 8 and runs through August 29, four nights each week (Mondays – Thursdays) for a total of 32 performances over 8 weeks.

For more information, please call the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater at 508-349-9428 where you can leave a message for the director, Stephen Russell, who will get back to you and try to answer your questions.
